5 Things I'd Tell My Younger Self |
As we get older we get wiser. We question the bombardment of products and services aimed at female insecurity around body image and appearance and about 'fitting in' to society's and the media's expectation of how a woman should be. This stage in a woman's life can be the most liberating, we can begin to promote a sense of freedom, power and ownership of ourselves. We may say things like, "why did it take me so long to get here," or "I wish I'd got here sooner." With this in mind, below are 5 things I'd tell my younger self.
1. Stop using creams on your face - Oh how your skin will love you for using oils such as rose hip or seabuckthorn instead of creams. Let your largest organ breathe and absorb only goodness not chemicals into your body. Nourish your skin.
2. Crunches don't work how you want them to - Within our pelvic bowl we carry our pelvic organs. These organs need space to move around, to be free and happy. Being toned doesn't mean 'tight.'
Tight abdominals and crunching will only serve to push our pelvic organs, the 'three sister's' that are the bladder, womb and rectum downwards. This can put us at risk of pelvic organ prolapse or pelvic floor dysfunction down the road.
3. Start loving your belly - It's never too late to start giving your belly the love she deserves.
Round is a sacred shape, not a shape of shame. This is the place of power and strength, honour and love it.
4. Ditch the heels - Ditching the heels is to new feminism what burning the bra was for old feminism.
The health benefits are tremendous it can help everything including easing painful symptoms of osteoarthritis to improving pelvic floor function - helping to prevent stress incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.
5. Never allow your age to define you or what you do - When we cross the bridge that is the menopause into our new life as the keeper's of wisdom, age becomes of no consequence. Enjoy the freedom it can bring.
